The law firm of Mike Alvey was established in January of 2005.  The firm concentrates on workers’ compensation, personal injury, and federal black lung defense throughout Western Kentucky, in addition to practice in the areas of corporate, real estate, estate, insurance, employment, and banking law. The firm maintains offices in Owensboro, Kentucky which is the third largest city in the state, and in Leitchfield, Kentucky. The offices are located in central and western Kentucky near major highway arteries to allow quick access to  rural communities.  In September of 2000, a branch office of the firm was established in Leitchfield, Kentucky for better service to our clients.  The firm utilizes state of the art research tools and communication methods to include the Internet and e-mail.  

 

 

MEMBERS OF FIRM     

 

            MICHAEL W. ALVEY, born in Leitchfield, Kentucky on August 27, 1958, earned a  a B.A. degree from Western Kentucky University in 1980, and his J.D. from the University of Kentucky in 1988.  Mr. Alvey is a member of the Daviess County Bar Association, Kentucky Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.  He is also a member of the  Workers’ Compensation section of the KBA.  He formerly served on the editorial board of the Workers’ Compensation Review, a publication of the Kentucky Academy of Trial Attorneys, and he currently serves on the Board of Directors of Comp Ed. Inc.  Mr. Alvey is also an adjunct professor at Western Kentucky University where he teaches in areas of business law and the regulatory environment of business. Mr. Alvey most recently co-authored a chapter for the University of Kentucky Workers’ Compensation Handbook.

 

            Mr. Alvey retired as a Major in the Kentucky Army National Guard in November, 2000, where he most recently served as the Executive Officer for an armor battalion.   Mr. Alvey also serves on various committees at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church where he is a member.  He has been involved locally with Leadership Owensboro, Leadership Henderson, and Leadership Grayson County, Junior Achievement of Owensboro, Western Kentucky University-Owensboro Campus Advisory Board, President of the Daviess County Chapter of the Western Kentucky University Alumni Association.  Mr. Alvey is also involved with coaching basketball and football in Owensboro youth leagues. Mr. Alvey is also a member, and past president of the Owensboro Breakfast Lion’s Club.   Mr. Alvey is married and has two sons.

            Mr. Alvey was an associate with the law firm of Ferreri & Fogle in their Lexington office for one year.  He then moved to Henderson, Kentucky where he worked with the law firm of Sheffer-Hoffman for 8 ½ years, the last 5 as a partner, where he  managed the firm’s workers’ compensation section while maintaining an active caseload.  Mr. Alvey practices in the areas of workers’ compensation defense and other insurance defense work, corporate, and employment law.  Mr. Alvey is admitted to federal practice in the Western District of Kentucky.
